Time allowance to complete each activity:
5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.
40-50 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)
Time allowance to assess:
A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.
Please ensure when you download this resource into Google Drive that you are logged in to the gmail account where you wish to store the activity. In the past teachers have downloaded resources into their school account in error. Thanks :)

The first lesson involves students retrieving facts from informational texts about the three famous artists, and writing these on to a fact sheet. In the second lesson students need to use these facts to write three to four paragraphs about the individual figures. In the third lesson students need to use prompt sheets to write up an introduction and a conclusion. In the final lesson your class will need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on a neat copy using the template provided.

Rosa Parks, who was arrested on the 1st December 1955 for refusing to give up her seat on a segregated bus; the event gave birth to the U.S. Civil Rights Movement.
The Japanese attack on the U.S. naval base, Pearl Harbor, which took place on the 7th December 1941 and brought America into World War II.
George Washington, the first American president who died at the age of sixty-seven on the 14th December 1799.
The Boston Tea Party, which happened on the 16th December 1773 when the Sons of Liberty group destroyed a shipment of tea; this eventually led to the start of the American Revolutionary War.
The first powered flight by the famous Wright Brothers, which took place on the 17th December 1903.
Vincent van Gogh, the famous Dutch artist, who cut off his left year whilst in a rage on the 23rd December 1888.
